03 / Test-limit waiver

Professional Development Courses

Move forward with a clear test-limit waiver plan.

If you need another opportunity to pass a Texas certification exam, review your five most recent exam attempts, understand the timeline, identify the professional development hours required, and prepare the documentation TEA expects.

01

Check your eligibility

First-time applicants generally wait 45 days after the most recent failed attempt. Applicants previously granted a waiver generally wait 180 days.

02

Determine your required hours

Required professional-development hours may range from 50 to 200 hours, depending on how close your highest score was to passing.

03

Prepare and submit

Gather score reports, identify deficit competencies, complete approved educational activities, document the hours, and submit the waiver materials to TEA.
